Lenovo ThinkPad P51 Review

Lisa Gade critiques the 15.6” Lenovo ThinkPad P51 cellular workstation that’s to be had with Intel seventh gen quad core 45 watt CPUs and Intel Xeon CPUs. Mobile workstations have slimmed down and misplaced weight, and this one isn’t a lot greater than a 15” Ultrabook, even though it’s simply thick sufficient to accommodate tough twin fan cooling, a detachable battery and simply obtainable internals. The computer is to be had with NVIDIA Quadro M1200 and M2200 4GB GDDR5 graphics, as much as 64GB RAM, and it has 2 M.2 PCIe NVMe appropriate SSD bays (RAID is to be had) and a 2.five” power bay. Full HD and a 4K UHD 100% Adobe RGB extensive gamut show IPS show are to be had and an X-Rite Pantone integrated calibration software is not obligatory.

  1. All the thinkpads are good.
I'm working with the thinkpad L440 now and i wanna get the X1 carbon

  2. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 0:34 morbull

  3. Great review, I have a P51 with Xeon 1535 processor, 16GB ECC RAM and 3x SSDs fitted, dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.10. Performance is excellent. Thunderbolt 3 supports 4 data lanes and latest Lenovo Thunderbolt software eGPU operation. I use an Aorus Gaming Box / GTX1070 graphics card with my P51 and it works well. Nvidia have also upped their game with latest drivers supporting eGPU operation, so you install both sets of drivers with matched release numbers and Quadro drivers are loaded for the internal Quadro M2200 card and GeForce drivers for the external GTX 1070 card.

  4. Finally! I waited and waited for this one, but I bought it last summer so almost a bit late! I wish you made this video before then. 😉

  5. This is my actual computer. It's freaking awesome. I have it with 64 GB of RAM and all the trimmings. It is the fastest thing I've ever used, and plays Elite Dangerous at the highest resolutions with no issues whatsoever. The keyboard is amazing. Plus it has a real escape key. As an ex Apple fanboi of nearly 30 years, they need to reminded what Pro actually means. This is Pro.

  6. i love the style/size of that, realistically thin, looks sturdy, loads of performance and upgradability. would be amazing at that price from a different company

  7. Hi Lisa, I was just wondering what program you use to calibrate your screen, cause I just got a new monitor for my desktop and I want to get the best picture I can. Any help would be appreciated.

  8. Lisa! Can we get a review of the Mi Notebook Air 13.3 2018 edition?

  9. Thank you so much for this review Lisa. I was waiting for a P51 review from you. Always great to see you review the more professional tools because no other reviewers do it quite like yourself.

  10. Please Lenovo Thinkpad x280 next, lightweight version of 1.1kg.

  11. Beautiful machine! But, I’m good with my new one. Great review! Thanks again!

  12. Lenovo really paid attention to slimming down their workstations. They have been doing forever. On the part of DELL, what they offer as their most powerful workstation is actually the Precision 7520. Compared to P51, Precision 7520 lacks expandability too much. It only has one m.2 port and one hdd port which makes it pale compared against the 3 m.2 pcie ports in its Alienware 15 which is also offered by DELL. I really doubt Precision 7520 can be called work station because its limited expandability. So does the precision 5520 which does not have spill resistant keyboard. You can't slab a 3 year warranty on any laptops, putting a Quadro GPU and call them workstations, can you?

  13. Yayyyyy finally. Please please please do more mobile workstations for us. I work for McLaren F1 and do a lot of CAD application work in my own time.

  14. More laptops should have Ethernet ports. I've been in quite a few situations where they would have come in really handy.

  15. Isn't the p52 about to come out?

  16. Hey, Lisa. Great review! I badly need your opinion. I'm torn between HP OMEN X 17t vs ALIENWARE 17 r4 with both similar specs of:
    -i7-7820hk (both)
    -gtx 1080 (both)
    -32gb ram (both)
-QHD 1440p 120Hz TN (AW 17) vs Full HD 1080p 144Hz IPS Display (Omen X) both w/ GSYNC
    -256GB PCIe SSD+1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s(AW 17) vs 1TB M.2 NVMe 2280 SSD+2TB 5400rpm HDD(Omen X)

it would cost me an additional $500 just to get 1tb+1tb on AW where I can get 1tb+2tb and save $500 with omen but is there a big diff in performance from these specs/brand/type of storage?

I watched most of your reviews and I know that Omen X doesn't have subwoofers and AW's screen is a lil better from my research but Omen has more usb slots and sdc reader than the AW. I'm just very weary with AW's cooling system for I've read a lot about its thermal throttling issues. Can you give me your honest opinion between the two laptops with the specs I've provided? As well as pros and cons that you can point out? Both are in very close price range atm with the specs I mentioned. Thank you!

  17. PLEASE review the new Thinkpad X1 Carbon (6th gen)!!!!!

  18. good review Tech GIRL ^_^

  19. I've just found your channel by accident but I am impressed. That was an excellent, high quality review. Definitely looking forward for more 🙂

  20. Got this one for work. Quite heavy, but worth lugging it around.

  21. anyone also wish that silver joint could be more gunmetal or darker?

  22. Lisa, I love these videos. I'm not exactly sure why, but I love the way you review the laptops. I've got an MSi GT73VR Titan Pro on the way and your smack-down was the reason I chose it. Keep doing what you're doing.

  23. All these nice laptops . and im to fucking poor to afford any. and it's just not me , it's the entire family , that's poor.

  24. If it didn't come with the number pad or came with an option to not have it, I'd buy it.

  25. Why am I watching this? I already own one

  26. I wonder how much different it is from P50. I have for more than a year and it’s been a great machine!

  27. I bought one a few months ago. My config is:Xeon E3-1505M v632GB RAM
    4k DisplayWWAN Card
Cost around $3,000 USD, but if you're someone who needs power in the field & office with little compromise, It's awesome. I use it with the docking station for a three monitor set up, which it handles no problem. I've never felt less limited when away from the office. Keyboard is also great.
One thing I was surprised about, this does not support windows hello face unlock. Not a huge deal when you tether it to your phone via Bluetooth and the finger print sensor is a little less responsive than my S8+… But none the less, I love this laptop.

  28. I have the P50, and don't like several things about it. First the full HD display, second the display aspect ratio, third – the trackpad that doesn't compare to a mbp. Other than that, it's a pretty solid laptop

  29. Please Lisa review the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon (6th gen)!!

  30. Hi, great review. By the way, your shirt is awesome :), where I can get one?

  31. Mam can you please recommend me a good laptop for cad rendering in 2018
